The Importance of Keeping God First in All Things

As humans, it’s easy to believe that everything is up to us — whether it’s getting a promotion, handling a tough day at work, or making difficult decisions. We often take on these burdens alone, convincing ourselves that we don’t have time to talk to God, or only turning to Him when we’re overwhelmed. However, God wants to hear about everything — not just our struggles, but also our joys, successes, and everyday experiences.

Building a Relationship with God

Our relationship with God should be like our relationship with a best friend. Think about that one person who knows everything about you — your favorite color, your hobbies, and even the little things like who you have a crush on. Now imagine if that best friend barely knew anything about you because you only spoke to them when you were in crisis. That’s how many of us treat our relationship with God — we only pray when we need something, instead of making Him a part of our daily lives.

I recently saw a TikTok where a girl talked about her relationship with God in a lighthearted and personal way. She shared how she casually told God she was craving a milkshake, and she felt like God encouraged her to go get one. On the way there and back, she just spent time talking to Him. This reminded me that having a relationship with God doesn’t have to be rigid or overly formal — it can be enjoyable, fun, and deeply personal.

Talking to God in Everyday Life

Many people think prayer has to be a serious and structured event, but that’s not true. Just like you would update a close friend on your day, God wants to hear from you in the little moments too. Whether you’re driving to work, going for a walk, or even enjoying a good meal, you can talk to God. Of course, if you’re praying while driving, keep your eyes open! But the point is that God should be the first one we turn to in all situations — not just when we’re desperate for help.

Too often, we rely on people for advice before we seek wisdom from God. We vent to friends, post on social media, or turn to mentors without first bringing our concerns to the One who has infinite wisdom. Imagine having a lifelong best friend and sharing your biggest news with a random acquaintance before telling them — it wouldn’t make sense, and it likely wouldn’t feel right. In the same way, God desires to be the first one we turn to because He knows us better than anyone else ever could.

The Power of Community in Faith

Growing closer to God isn’t always easy, especially if we haven’t been in the habit of seeking Him daily. That’s why community is so important. The Bible emphasizes the power of fellowship because we are not meant to do this journey alone. Having a Christian support system can encourage us to be accountable and continue growing in our faith.

One of the reasons I love creating content is because it allows me to be part of that community. I know I’m not the only one striving to deepen my relationship with God, and by sharing my journey, I hope to inspire and connect with others who are doing the same. We don’t have to walk this path alone — we can grow together, encourage one another, and have fun along the way.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve been struggling with making God a daily part of your life, you’re not alone. I’m on this journey too, and I want to encourage you to start treating God like your best friend. Talk to Him about the big and small moments. Make Him the first person you turn to, not the last. And if you’re looking for a supportive community to grow with, I’d love for us to be on this journey together.
