No Longer Bound by Forrest Frank and Hulvey: A Song of Freedom and Grace

One of my favorite songs from Forrest Frank’s album Child of God is No Longer Bound, featuring Hulvey. The song’s message is incredibly uplifting, serving as a constant reminder that no matter how much we stress or struggle in life, we are always covered by God’s grace. Because Jesus died on the cross for our sins, we are forgiven, and we can live with that reassurance every day.

A Song That Sets You Free

Right from the start, the song’s powerful chorus — sung in what sounds like a choir — declares, “You came to set us free.” Hearing these words instantly made me think about how God sets us free from expectations — the pressure to live up to what people think of us, the fear of letting others down. In reality, life is not about working for human validation but about honoring and pleasing God. This song beautifully conveys that message.

Freedom from Material Attachments

Another reason I love this song is its reminder to not rely on material things for fulfillment. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that money, success, or status will bring us happiness. But when the song declares, “I am no longer bound,” it reassures us that even when we make mistakes or struggle with sin, we are not chained to our past. God’s forgiveness allows us to move forward, free from guilt and shame.

Finding Joy in Every Day

One of my favorite lines in the song is, “Every day, I wake up feeling blessed.” It immediately reminded me of Lovely Day by Bill Withers. That song, like this one, carries a message of gratitude — waking up with a positive outlook and appreciating the simple gift of life. Knowing that we have another day to grow, improve, and glorify God is a reason to rejoice.

The Search for Validation

Another lyric that stood out to me is, “Because I was lost until You found me.” It resonated deeply because, for a long time, I searched for validation in all the wrong places — grades, financial success, and material possessions. But none of these things brought me the peace that comes from a relationship with God. This line reminds me that true fulfillment isn’t found in external achievements but in spiritual connection and faith.

A Clever Pop Culture Reference

A line that caught me by surprise was, “I was Timmy Turner, always chasing after Vicky.” As someone who grew up watching Fairly OddParents, I immediately recognized the reference. It made me think about how, in the past, I sought validation in relationships, shopping, or appearances. But those things never truly filled the void inside. The song highlights how, instead of chasing after temporary satisfaction, we should turn to God for true peace.

A Cleansing and Renewed Perspective

Another powerful lyric states, “Took me to His fountain, gave me peace, and chose to cleanse me up.” This part really struck a chord with me. Growing up, I attended church regularly, but for a long time, I wasn’t truly present. I was physically there but mentally distracted. It wasn’t until I faced real challenges — particularly in school — that I realized I couldn’t do everything on my own. When I started actively listening in church, engaging in Bible study, and seeking God’s guidance, my entire mindset shifted. I stopped being consumed by negative, self-defeating thoughts and found a sense of peace knowing that God’s plan unfolds in His perfect timing.

Trusting God’s Timing

This song also reinforced an important lesson: we can stress all we want, but ultimately, things happen in God’s timing. If something is meant to be, it will happen according to His plan. And if it doesn’t, then it wasn’t part of His will — and that’s okay. This perspective has given me a profound sense of peace.

Final Thoughts

No Longer Bound is more than just a song — it’s a powerful reminder of God’s grace, freedom, and the peace that comes with faith. If you haven’t heard it yet, I highly recommend giving it a listen.
