My thoughts on the song Grapejuice by Harry Styles
Hey guys, today I wanted to review the song, Grape Juice by Harry Styles from his album, Harry’s House. And this song seems like a, a shift from the album. Late night talks because it seems like in late night talks, he’s talking about how he wants to be with his girl, but they’re apart and, they’re talking on the phone or facetime or whatever, just trying to still, stay in touch and to still kind of feel each other’s presence even though they can’t necessarily feel each other physically because they’re not in the same location.
And it seems like for grape juice, finally, this girl’s kind of back and they’ve kind of reunited because he says “yesterday it finally became a sunny afternoon. I was on my way to buy some flowers for you thought that we could hide away in a corner of the heat. There’s never been someone who’s so perfect for me.”
And so yeah, when I heard the part, yesterday, it finally came a sunny afternoon, I kind of, you know, figured I was like, oh, ok. So he’s talking about being reunited with his girl now and how all of a sudden it’s like, the sun is up and things are just looking much brighter and when he talks about how he was on his way to buy some flowers and, they could hide away.
I love that because he’s talking about just kind of wanting to be alone with this girl and just catch up. And I think that as humans, sometimes we forget that celebrities are humans too and sometimes they just want to be alone with their significant other or whatever the case may be. And of course, I understand that, it comes with the territory and it’s tough.
But I just liked how he said that because it was a reminder for me that, wow, like celebrities are people also and when they, sometimes they just want to go out and live normal lives.
And so then he says, “but I got over it and I said, give me something old and red. I pay for it more than I did back then.” And for me, when I, when I heard that line, I thought about when he says, I pay for it more than I did back then.
I thought about literally in terms of financially where he’s talking about how maybe back then he didn’t spend as much money on flowers or doing things in his past relationships because he didn’t value it as much. And now the fact that he’s saying he pays more for it, he’s saying that he values relationships a lot more now than he did back then. Because of that, he’s willing to put in more time effort and, if need be, he’s willing to put in more money towards this relationship because he’s starting to gain a different kind of appreciation and value for them. And then he says, “there’s just no getting through without you a bottle of rouge, just me and you 1982 just me and you, there’s just no getting through the grape juice blues.” And so for me, when I heard this part of the song, when he mentions 1982 I was thinking maybe he’s referencing his favorite kind of wine or, maybe him and his girlfriend have a, a similar kind of wine that
they really enjoy. And I feel like with certain wines, it’ll kind of have like the year name or, you know, whatever is part of the name, the branding on the bottle. And so I was thinking that was probably a direct reference to that wine.
And then when he says the grape juice blues, I think he’s kind of following up on that saying that, whenever he sees that bottle of wine or hears about it, he starts to get a sense of the blues or he starts to feel some type of way whenever he’s away from his girl because he knows that that’s their favorite drink and that could be their drink of choice when they, reunite or go out on picnics or, whatever the case may be. I thought that was a neat, part of the song just the way that he was able to put in that year and then talk about The Great Juice Blues at the end. When I first saw the title of the song, I don’t know why, but I was thinking about grapefruit and not, grape juice. And so as the song kind of went on, I was like, oh, wait a second, it’s actually grape juice and not grapefruit.
That pretty much wraps up my review of this song. Let me know what you guys think about it in the comments below and if you guys enjoy music, if you guys enjoy music reviews, please follow me for more reviews!
