my thoughts on Dylan Scott’s song “New Truck
To start of this review I want to preface everything I say by saying I haven’t listened to Dylan Scott in a long time so I figured I’d give this new song a listen and I’m thankful I did.
At first I thought the song was gonna be about him talking about a truck he got which is nothing too exciting.
But it took me for a spin when it was actually about him wanting a new truck because his old truck reminded him of his ex girlfriend because of the good times they had in that car.
2 of my favorite parts from the song are:
“I need one she ain’t climbed up in
That ain’t played her favorite songs”
“That’s all that’s wrong with this one, if you’re looking you’re in luck
I need a new truck”
It’s a very interesting perspective because I’ve never heard a song written about a breakup from the standpoint of a car, so it made me also think about the TV show New Girl when Jess first broke up with her ex in the beginning of the series and she didn’t want to get her stuff back because it would require her to go back to her ex’s house.
It’s an extremely relatable song because I’m sure we have all been in a position where we had something that reminded us of someone that we are no longer seeing or are no longer friends with. When we have these things, whether it’s a t-shirt, a pair of shoes, or something even more expensive like a truck, sometimes the best thing to do may be to get rid of these things so we can begin to heal and move forward.
Let me know what you guys think about the song in the comments below!
